Description
Whitworth Tool, Inc. is a great little company - but not enough people know about us (yet)!
Whitworth was started by a machinist and employs many skilled machinists and machine operators. But Whitworth has relied on ongoing relationships with established customers and has not emphasized marketing more broadly.
The new CEO has had strong traditional marketing experience and appreciates the potential impact of digital marketing. We're looking for an intern with marketing skills who can work directly with the CEO to upgrade Whitworth's marketing.
This internship has some flexibility:
•There are many marketing improvement opportunities (see current working list below), so we can match some of them with the intern's interests and skillset.
•This is a Hybrid role - you'll need to get down to Hardinsburg 1 or 2 days/week, but you'll also do additional work remote.
•We're looking for about 20 hours/week, but that can flex between 10-30 hrs./wk. depending on the academic calendar and other commitments and the interns time availability.
•We'd like this internship to start as soon as possible, but can be flexible about the specific start date and breaks for vacations, Finals, etc.
•No extra business travel is required, but if you want to see what it's like to work a trade show, we can include that.
Requirements
Duties :
•After an initial orientation, agree on specific marketing improvement projects. and then define the scope of work, deliverables, target timeline, and resources needed for each project - then implement them! Review the status of each project with the CEO each week, and as initial projects are completed, initiate new projects.
•As you get to know more about the business, develop and propose additional ideas for improving Whitworth's positive recognition in specific target communities and overall.
•Develop a practical knowledge of how marketing should work with sales, finance, and operations.
•Other tasks as assigned by the CEO.
Qualifications :
•This is an entry level role, with no specific prior experience expected. Helpful but not required to have some prior marketing experience; a strong grounding in basic marketing knowledge is strongly preferred. Prior experience with a machining business would be very helpful but is not expected. A personal interest in industrial marketing and manufacturing businesses is preferred.
•Must have strong computer skills generally, and with Microsoft Office Suite specifically. Skills using Google suite would also be helpful.
•Prior experience building or upgrading a website, creating commercial LinkedIn/Facebook/Instagram/YouTube postings, and creating marketing collateral materials would be helpful but is not required.
•No specific level of academic achievement is required. This internship is intended to be compatible with a student continuing to take courses, but a student must be realistic about the internship time commitment.
•Must be willing to speak up and express and explain ideas and opinions, but also listen actively and empathetically to others. Must be able to collaborate with other people with a wide variety of educational backgrounds and life experiences.
•Must have reliable transportation as needed to and from Whitworth's site in Hardinsburg (about 70 miles from UofL). Prior residence or family in Hardinsburg or Breckinridge County could be helpful but is not expected.
•Must pass the drug test and background test required of all new Whitworth employees.
•Because of the firearms and military work we do, U.S. citizens preferred.
Starting pay: $20/hr. with potential increase or bonus after demonstrated excellent performance
